MASKS!

This is a great way to introduce the masks that presently sit, proudly, in our front window. I'm sorry, I can't introduce these guys, other than in my fashion. This mask I'll name "Village Henchman." What has caused this reaction? Maybe his woman, Constant, Truly Loyal Wife wants to go out to dinner.
OK. He gets mad. Won't take her out to dinner. Then, of course, she gets mad and won't fix him dinner. Two days later, when he's prostrate on the ground from hunger, he gets her these beads to placate her.
Our heroine is from a far distant village where the finest of cuisine grows and has to load her little horse up with whatever Goodies husband might want for dinner so she can put that dinner on the table. Poor horse can't take too much at a time as he's only made of straw. OK, so he's a special horse, loves his mistress, and will do anything for her, but for her husband? Nah. So, she has to plead with him to bring whatever the Master wants. Very painful. No wonder she gets mad when he refuses her a night out on the town.
Well, the Elders in the Village get to gossiping about this Trauma between their Village Henchman and his Usually Constant, Truly Loving Wife. Sorry, We'll have to wait until the next installment to find out what happened to Village Henchman and his Constant, Truly Loving Wife. Is he still hungry?
Our Dollar Rack is absolutely bursting with Goodies. Hey Guys, I worked in the shop last week and one gal I waited on took twelve items off this rack. She had a whole bunch of friends, and/or relatives she wanted to gift. This was an amazing group of Goodies. Beautiful women's suits, blouses, lovely pairs of slacks. I mean, this lady had a steal going because each woman's suit was probably at least ten times that much when it was hanging on our shelves!

Wonderful Russian Folk Art And Other Treasures!

These great examples of Russian folk art are at the Turnabout Shop, thanks to David Mandel, one of our volunteers. David presented these charming pieces of art to the shop as a gift from his parents. Thank you, David! This Bakery Shop, with customers, sits on a table in the book room, along with the other charming figures shown below. While you're perusing the collection be sure to read about David's father, who has a fascinating history.

Here we have a bright blue and green plate, as well as a wooden bowl with what looks like horse-head handles! As usual I can't tell what the piece of pottery is next to the plate, maybe a jar to hold olive oil? I'll have to wait until I tap twice on the picture, which is like opening a box of treasures in a magic cave!
Tap on this picture twice and take a look at that curious wooden treasure next to the vase at the far right. It contains a little drawer, which could hold stamps, or paper clips, maybe even a tiny scissor. Whatever you want can reside in that drawer as long as it's small. I find this object particularly interesting as it's very modern, while most of the other things to be seen on the table are old and quaint. Also, while just about everything else appears to be Russian in origin, the box all the way to the left looks to be Japanese! David's parents have an international collection, it seems!

Things Miraculous and Of Ancient Provenance!

I'm not really claiming this is of ancient provenance but it's certainly a reminder of an ancient time. I don't claim to know what civilization it hails from but isn't it lovely?
Marching across the top of this cupboard are plates--each different and each from a different era and one of them just right for a special gift for someone you care about. A beautiful coffee pot with delicate mugs that feels like they hail from the 1800's grace the shelf directly below them on the right. Delicate shades of pink against white--truly an amazing set. A tea cozy plants itself stern and beautiful on the middle shelf on the left. What else? A tea pewter sits on the shelf below the cozy. Lift the teapot and you'll find it's marked which makes it precious!
I'm sure you'll find other things here to enjoy but how about that copper pot? I love it! A gravy boat with it's own dish sits on the bottom shelf. Gravy boats absolutely demand a dish to catch the drippings which makes this set very useful as well as beautiful. It's always instructive to try to guess what else is here--I'm so often wrong but I do enjoy guessing: a glass ice bowl with its own pair of tongs; a coffee pot being rudely shoved to the side on the top shelf? What about it? Am I right?
A potpourri of beads and necklaces and earrings that say try me on!
I am continually amazed by our dollar rack. I worked at the shop not too long ago and watched six beautiful items walk out of the store from this rack. Here you see shirts and blouses--one shirt to the left I might have bought for my husband for our trip to Hawaii--darn. I love the way the fabrics play against each other!

Mystery, Double-Up Fun!

Hey, you know I love these double-up images. I found a bunch today which focus on a beautiful turquoise necklace. As usual, there are some mysteries here. A small green shelf is all the way to the right in the upper image, not to be seen in the lower. A necklace is cozing up to it in that upper image but is bereft and alone in the lower image. Put it out of its misery!
Not so much mystery here except for a green--maybe jade bracelet--in the top image not to be seen in the lower. The turquoise necklace is just peeking in on the right on the top.
OK, our ladies who know everything who run the shop decided that brown clasp Something is worth being displayed in this special double image. What does it hold? Secret papers from Lincoln's time? Nah; you tell me. Those interesting bracelets are now featured front and center all the way to the right and darn I don't think that bracelet is Jade.
My friend Pig is overlooking the special antique cupboard. Some new things here, people, some of them still on sale at 1/2 off! Don't ask me which ones. That's for you to discover. That's half the fun!

That CRAZY, WONDERFUL ONE HALF OFF SALE!

By now, you know about the sale tomorrow. Here is a little heads-up on what will be out there. I believe, everything from the next to the bottom shelf to the first shelf are ripe for the picking. What about the very top of the cabinet? I don't know--except for Pig, which is mine!
I believe this cabinet has some items on that 1/2 off sale but don't quote me on it. It's 6:35 PM and I'm a little foggy about what is actually on sale. I do believe there's some good things. I'm working tomorrow, so I'll fight you for them. (Really a no no, so don't panic, but I couldn't resist.)
Believe it or not, this usually off-limits cabinet behind the front counter is up for grabs! Yes! There are three small plates--two on the middle shelf on the left and one on the right on the top that I might fight you for if I could, especially at 1/2 off. Really lovely. Click on the image and you'll see what I mean. Also, down on the lower shelf toward the middle are a couple of little wedding goblets for the bride and groom next to a box to keep track of all the gifts and given that we're into April with June not far away and again, for 1/2 off, why not?
Sorry--nothing on that special 1/2 off sale here. Nada. Nothing. Hey, but our stuff is worth anything you pay!
As usual, our Dollar Rack has got some great stuff. I think there was a purple blouse on this rack on my last blog . How about that purple--lavender skirt to go with it?

Double Glory!

Don't you love this image? Things in double are fascinating. What's most interesting to me is that I didn't think I had this image at all. All the contortions I went through to try to get it and all for nought, I thought, and then voila! Magic! What's most fun to me is I catch some things in the upper image not available in the lower image.
Talk about contortions. At first I removed these two mirrors and took a couple of pictures. Diddly Squat--nothing--nada. So I put them back and no blinding flash obscured the picture (the reason the two beauties went in the first place)--just a lovely image. My recollection is that bracelet to the left is worth a look, as well as those earrings showing off for you, front and center.
This image refused to double up, and they're in the same cabinet. Sibling rivalry? Oh yes. Nice earrings to the left and some interesting chains. What is that necklace to the right announcing itself so rudely? Yikes!
Some new things here, a glass figurine of a rooster on the bottom shelf toward the left as well as some interesting plates. We are featuring that wonderful antique army coffee pot (all right, it's not a coffee pot but I can't think what else to call it) and it's marked down! Wonders will never cease!
What a panoply of color this Dollar Rack displays so proudly: pinks and reds and blues and purples. It's a rainbow!

You Won't Believe What You See!

First and foremost, this bowl. A true treasure, just click on the picture and feast your eyes.
Our antique wood case has got a host of new things: earrings, necklaces, rings and that wild white bead necklace at the top that looks like it's floating. Lovely.
You're seeing double--it's true. My camera caught a reflection of this case, filled with necklaces and bracelets, everyone a wonder! There's one mystery object next to that lovely green bead necklace. What is it?
Some wonderful chains, many sporting pendants and look at that pink bracelet way at the top!
The Dollar Rack, as usual, is filled with fabulous things--slacks and shirts, blouses and jackets. One pink blouse absolutely gleams, just waiting to be paired with a black velvet skirt or pants--and look at that green jacket!
